How to apply for work visa in Japan?

What document do I need to apply for work visa in Japan?

I keep getting different information. Could anyone, who has done this before, help me please? I've heard that except your diploma you need to enclose letters from all the schools you have attended and working places. Is that true?
thank you!

Best Answer:  Left Coast USA has given you a clear information about the easiest way to obtain a WorkVisa for Japan.
However, the official website of the Japanese Embassy also shows a way to obtain a WorkVisa without Certificate Of Eligibility. Here is the excerpt:

APPLICATION FILED WITHOUT CERTIFICATE OF ELIGIBILITY
1.Applicant's valid passport, properly signed by bearer
2.VISA APPLICATION FORM TO ENTER JAPAN (available here), completely filled out and signed by the applicant
3.One photograph(2" x 2") attached to application form
4.Material showing the outline of the recipient organization: copies of the corporate registration (Tokibo Tohon, issued within last 3 months) and documents describing the its activities (e.g. an annual report)
5.Documents certifying the applicant's qualifications such as relevant degrees and/or educational license obtained by the applicant.
6.Documents certifying the professional history such as employment verification letters and/or applicant's CV.
7.Documents certifying the activity, its duration, the position, and the remuneration of the person concerned (e.g. a copy of a contract, a letter of acceptance)
8.One clear photocopy of all the documents you are submitting

The Embassy of Japan reserves the right to request additional documents if deemed necessary.

The Embassy of Japan will not make copies, if you need original documents, please bring the original and one copy.

Please allow at least four business days to have your application reviewed. (Cases without the Certificate of Eligibility may take a few months.)

You can always un-confuse yourself by getting primary source information. Visas to Japan are issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and they have a website.
http://www.mofa.go.jp/j_info/visit/visa/...

The documents you need to apply for a working visa (work visa) in Japan are your passport, one visa application form, one regulation photograph, and a certificate of eligibility.

All the documents are equally important, but the CoE is the most important one you can't afford to make a mistake on. It is actually applied for by your employer and issued to you. So in order to get your CoE, your employer needs copies of the documents that prove you are eligible for a visa, including your diploma.

It does not bode well that you are confused about the documents you need for a working visa application, since that means your employer isn't familiar with the process, and you are dependent on them not making a mistake in order for you to get your CoE.

However, if you are trying to get a working visa before you have an employer, this is not possible. You need an employer first, who applies for your CoE, and then you can apply for a working visa. Please seek employment first and then apply for your working visa.

  • Your degree and a job offer. That's all.

Your employer will do most of the paperwork, as they are sponsoring your visa.
